1st Youth Career Workshop 2011

Wundanyi C.C. Hall Since 2009, our key focus has been empowering students and youths to work hard and achieve good results in their education. We have had positive results both in changing approach as well as academic excellence to our mentees. We believe the course we took was in the right direction. However, we have had an overwhelming demand from these graduates to create a forum where they can get insight and direction on the approach they need to take in choosing their careers.

Choosing a career can be an upward task if proper guidance is not at hand. We recognize the fact that passing examinations and choosing careers are distinct tasks altogether. The graduates face a challenge in identifying courses, institutions and steps that would lead them to their career of choice. Due to lack of proper systems of guidance, most graduates take courses without the knowledge of the careers that they would lead them to. Some choose to stay back in their villages because they are not aware of the many available opportunities in tertiary institutions within their reach. However, a few gamble, and land in the right careers!

With this in mind, the Undugu Mentorship Initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports have organized the 1st Youth Career Workshop on 30th April 2011 at Wundanyi District in Taita-Taveta County. The theme of the workshop is "Taking Charge of your Future" and is targeting form 4 leavers for the years (But not limited to) 2008, 2009 and 2010, some of whom had been in our mentorship programme drawn from the entire county.

The 1-day event will begin with a procession in Wundanyi town dubbed "Say No to Drug Abuse and Alcohol Abuse" in a view to show solidarity in the fight against illicit drugs and substance abuse. The procession will snake through the town and converge at the County Council Hall. We are partnering with facilitators drawn from different areas of profession and tertiary institutions to give guidance and insight in among others:

  1. Career paths & available openings for Post secondary education/training.
  2. Entrepreneurial and business skills.
  3. Drugs & Alcohol Abuse
  4. HIV & AIDS
  5. Life skills and motivation for responsible living

Entry is FREE for all the participants

We are seeking partnership with like-minded individuals, educational institutions, NGOs and corporate organizations as we create a more empowered generation. We are all driven by a passion to make a difference in the society.
